Rock Dust Readings

Order Total:

This is the label showing the analysis of the rock dust. You note that there are a lot of minerals, all naturally occurring in montmorillonite clay. Measurements are in mR/hr. So, a reading of .010 mR/hr is equivalent to .1 mSv or 1 μSv. "Normal" background radiation levels are 0.23μSv/hr (worldwide) and estimated to be somewhat higher in the U.S. Obviously, the levels vary from place to place, but the measurements made here are well below normal.

Background readings, without anything on the test table were:

On Table Directly:

.006-.015 (7 readings with back cover closed)
.005-.013 (6 readings with cover open)

On Tray on Table:

.010-.013 (7 readings with back cover closed)
.005-.015 (6 readings with cover open)

Now that the geiger counter and testing methods are becoming familiar, only the first image will be full size and the additional readings taken in the same manner will be miniaturized. It is completely normal that the readings vary somewhat since the Geiger-Müller tubes only register a counter when bombarded by radiation.

So, five measurements were taken. The readings ranged from .011 to .015 and averaged around .013+.
Now some rock dust has been placed in the testing tray. It will be tested with the back cover in place and again with the back cover open (alpha measurements).

Next, a sample of soil from a raised bed that is fully exposed to the elements has been placed in the testing tray.
